Learn how to use What Is In The Box to organize your life.
Welcome to "What Is In The Box"! This application helps you keep track of items stored in boxes, bins, or containers. Never forget where you put your winter clothes, cables, or keepsakes again.
Start by creating a digital box to represent a real-world container.
List everything you put inside the box so you can search for it later.
Print the QR code and stick it on your box for quick access.
Navigate to the "Boxes" page and click "Create Box". Give it a descriptive name like "Attic - Holiday Decor". You can also add an optional description and assign it to a location (e.g., Garage, Basement).
If a box is no longer in active use but you want to keep the records, you can "Archive" it. Archived boxes don't show up in your main list but are still searchable.
Open a box view and us the "Add Item" button. You can type the name of the item. It's best to be specific (e.g., "Blue Winter Jacket" instead of just "Jacket") to make searching easier.
Need to move an item to another box? Click the "Move" icon next to an item in the list and select the destination box. The item will be instantly transferred.
AI Import uses advanced image recognition to automatically identify items in a photo. Instead of manually typing each item, simply take a photo or upload an image, and the AI will detect and list all visible items for you to import into your box.
From any box detail page, click the "AI Import" button to open the import modal.
Use your device's camera to take a photo of items you want to add. Great for quickly cataloging items as you pack them.
Upload an existing photo from your device. Useful if you've already taken photos of your items.
After the AI identifies items, review the list and select which ones to import. You can deselect any items you don't want before importing.
For the most accurate item detection, follow these photo guidelines:
AI Import is available on the Garage plan. Each account gets 30 AI scans per month, which resets on the first day of each month.
Every box gets a unique QR code. From the Box Details page, click "Print Label" to generate a printable label with the QR code, box name, and location. The label is sized for standard 4" x 2" label paper, but works with any printer.
Use the built-in QR scanner to quickly access any box. Click "Scan" from the Boxes page or use the floating scan button on mobile. Point your camera at a box's QR code and you'll be taken directly to that box's page - no need to search or scroll.
What Is In The Box works as a Progressive Web App (PWA), meaning you can install it on your phone like a native app - no app store needed!
Once installed, the app caches essential pages so you can still browse your boxes even with a spotty internet connection. Full functionality requires an internet connection.

When you upgrade to a higher plan, the change takes effect immediately. Your card will be charged the prorated difference for the remaining billing period. All previously locked boxes will be unlocked automatically.
When you downgrade, you'll continue to have full access to your current plan until the end of your billing period. The new plan takes effect at your next billing date. If you change your mind, you can cancel the scheduled change and stay on your current plan.
Each plan has a box limit. When you reach your limit, you'll need to upgrade to create more boxes. Archived boxes also count towards your limit - only deleting a box will free up space.
If you downgrade or cancel your subscription and have more boxes than your new plan allows, some boxes will become locked. We keep your oldest boxes unlocked (up to your plan limit) and lock the newest ones.
To unlock your boxes, simply upgrade to a plan with a higher box limit.
Go to Settings → Billing to view your current plan, subscription status, and manage your subscription. From here you can:
If you cancel your subscription, you'll continue to have access to your paid features until the end of your current billing period. After that, your account will revert to the free Personal plan. If you have more boxes than the free plan allows, excess boxes will be locked but not deleted.
Changed your mind? If you're still within your billing period after canceling, you can resume your subscription from the Billing page. Your plan will continue as normal without any interruption.
